On our way from Memphis to Nashville, we stopped at a gas station located somewhere in the mountains. It was very early in the morning, and the entire outside of the station was covered in these mosquito-like bugs. The station attendant told us that it happens once a year, and that the winged bugs aren't able to fly very much, and and usually only live for a day or two.
